The International Forum for Student Design Projects-Co-sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society
The IEEE Systems and Information Engineering Design Symposium (SIEDS'07) is a student-focused international forum for applied research, development, and design in Systems and Information Engineering. The Symposium is the leading showcase for undergraduate and Master's graduate design projects, such as those from capstone design courses or from baccalaureate, honors, or design-oriented graduate theses. Projects must extend beyond the analysis of systems and include the synthesis of alternative solutions to a problem. When appropriate, implementation and testing of a design is encouraged. Faculty, industry, and government project advisors are welcome coauthors.

Limited travel scholarships are available.

Contributed papers are solicited that apply diverse methodologies, including:

  • Data Mining and Statistics
  • Simulation and Stochastic Modeling
  • Human Factors and Cognitive Engineering
  • Mathematical Modeling and Optimization
  • Risk Analysis, Technology Management, and Policy
  • Life-cycle Analysis
  • Systems Economic Analysis

Papers can describe work in a wide variety of application areas, including: Telecommunications and Information Technology, Energy, Robotics, Transportation and Logistics, Critical Infrastructure, Military Applications, Economic and Financial Systems, Environmental, E-Business, Manufacturing, Education, and Decision Support. Papers should emphasize the application of fundamental systems analysis and design concepts. Symposium papers presented will appear in a copyrighted CD-ROM proceedings, available on-site and through IEEE Press. Papers not accepted for the proceedings will be considered for the conference poster sessions.

OF SPECIAL NOTE

  • Awards for Best Paper will be presented for each track.
  • Student Travel scholarships are available on limited basis.

VENUE
The Symposium will be held on the grounds of the historic University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

SYMPOSIUM FEES
Symposium fees reflect the student focus (and student participation) of SIEDS'06. Registration will include one copy of CD-ROM Proceedings and admission to all conference functions, including an evening banquet and breaks.

•  Student $75
•  IEEE Member (non-student) $100
•  All Others $150

Corporate sponsorship is invited. Please contact the Symposium Committee for more information.

DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS

February 23, 2007: Submission of 200-500 word abstracts for contributed papers not previously published or presented. Abstracts should explicitly address, in (numbered) order:

  1. the systems analysis or design problem being solved,
  2. relevant literature and the state of the art (motivation),
  3. the methodological approach developed or adopted, and
  4. preliminary results and implications.

February 26, 2007: Contributors will be notified whether or not their paper has been accepted as a full paper or for the poster session. Author's Kit will be available online.

April 6, 2007: Deadline for registration for the symposium.

April 9, 2007: Deadline for submission of a complete manuscript, as per instructions in the Author's Kit.

All abstracts and papers are submitted electronically through the PaperCept conference Manuscript Management System.
